Hello! I’m Andre, the founder of Greenline Growery. Since 2013, my wife and I have dedicated ourselves to cultivating high-quality plants and building meaningful relationships with our clients. We believe that every plant tells a story, and we’re here to help yours flourish.
Our Journey
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been an outdoor and nature-loving type of guy. I have always liked being outdoors, especially when it had something to do with plants, being surrounded by plants, or even just being out in the veld. Growing up, I was always the one helping my mom in the garden, and I specifically remember mowing the lawn, and making sure that every line was straight and the edges trimmed perfectly. I couldn’t wait for school holidays to explore the outdoors, and our family hiking trips were a highlight of my childhood. Those early experiences ignited a love for the beauty and complexity of nature that has only grown stronger over the years.
After school, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but the only thing I really decided for myself was that as long as I could work outdoors and not in an office all day, I would be happy.
So, I joined a small, newly opened nursery in Bloemfontein. After some years, an opportunity opened up at one of the larger nurseries in the area. There, I advanced through all the facets of running a nursery and so on, and eventually, as the manager, led the team to run an award-winning nursery for 13 years.

It was at this time that I also met my wife, Mart-Marie. She grew up on a plot in Bloem where her father farmed with pecan nuts. He planted the seed of love for nature and the outdoors, which led to her studying and pursuing a career in horticulture.
And then we moved to Pretoria. So I moved from a client-facing nursery to one of the larger wholesale nurseries, where I learned a lot about sales. This job took me all over South Africa, meeting so many people and seeing so many nurseries. It was quite a nice adventure, but it also gave me a deeper understanding of what it is people are looking for and need for their nurseries in the different areas.
I drove a lot and had plenty of time to think, so the idea of starting my own wholesale nursery started to take root. When I got home in the evenings, I would discuss all sorts of ideas with Mart-Marie. She was just as excited, and together we started planning to turn this dream into a reality.
In 2013, Greenline Growery was founded to grow plants to supply nurseries, developers, and landscapers. We decided to specialise in a diverse range of plants that we believe meet the varying needs of our clients, from colourful grasses and ground covers to shrubs and succulents and so on. It is important to us to supply plants that are healthy, resilient, and ready to make a positive impact where they are planted. This means we grow our plants in natural environments, exposing them to all the elements to ensure they are robust and ready to thrive where they are finally planted.
